LABORATORY SAFETY PLAN

A Laboratory Safety Plan (LSP) is a written plan that sets forth procedures, equipment, personal protective equipment and work practices capable of protecting employees from health hazards presented by the chemicals used in the laboratory. The LSP is designed to provide the Principal Investigator the ability to develop such a written plan specific to his or her laboratory. The LSP must be completed by new principal Investigators and updated on an annual basis or whenever significant changes occur in the laboratory. The Laboratory Safety Plan provides the following:


GENERAL LABORATORY SAFETY TRAINING
All students, faculty, and staff with potential exposure to hazardous materials in a laboratory setting must complete training upon initial assignment to a lab and annually thereafter, by:

LAB-SPECIFIC SAFETY TRAINING
All lab personnel must be trained upon initial assignment and annually thereafter, on lab-specific topics which cannot be addressed in a general training, by:

LAB WASTE MANAGEMENT
Lab workers that generate, collect, or otherwise work with hazardous waste or unwanted materials, must complete training when they begin work in the lab and every 2 years thereafter, by:

BIOSAFETY TRAINING
Recommended for work with BSL-1 and required for BSL-2 materials. Initial and annual training requirements can be fulfilled by:
